The purpose of a Bat-Mitzvah is to create a loving space for witnessing your daughter grow into her fullest, most authentic and empowered self.
The Hebrew word for 'Witness' is עד -EYD. This word is also at the root of יִעוּד YEUD – meaning destiny & life-purpose. In the loving circle of witnessing that happens at a Bat-Mitzvah, your daughter is able to connect to her unique self in a new, exciting and life-changing way. This occurs not just by the family witnessing her, but by your daughter witnessing herself in a new light.

THE HOUSE OF MITZVAH
- Preparation Course for your Boutique Bat-Mitzvah & Ceremony:
The very term 'Bat-Mitzvah' offers us a beautiful vision of what this ritual is all about. The Hebrew letters of the word 'Bat' mean daughter but also spell 'Bayit' - meaning House. Our home is where we feel like we can fully be ourselves. The hope of this Bat-mitzvah ritual is that your daughter will get in touch with her most natural self. It is a celebration of her 'coming home' to herself as an independent individual and as a Jewish woman.
Thus, the structure for this unique Bat-mitzvah preparation is built around the rich symbolism of the house. It offers the bat-mitzvah girl a space and structure to explore what the idea of being a Jewish woman means -- specifically for her.
This curriculum offers a powerful journey of self-discovering using Jewish teachings and wisdom to guide the way. The curriculum can be flexible to meet the needs of your daughter and your family. It is up to 8 sessions long, but can also consist of as few as 2 or 3 sessions in preparation for the ceremony. The gift of having a 'boutique bat-mitzvah' is that we will tailor this journey specifically to your family.
Session 1 - The Entryway - Setting Intentions and Entering the Ritual - Understanding what a Bat-Mitzvah is and opening up to discover your self
Session 2 - The Family Room - Meet the Family - What it means to be part of the Jewish family - Jewish History & Identity - Understanding Your Own Family and your place in it
Session 3 - The Kitchen - Nourishing Your Soul - Finding the Jewish path that feeds your unique soul. Also, how do you feed others? Clarifying your bat-mitzvah project of 'tzedaka'.
Session 4 - The Play Room - In this session we will PLAY with the themes of your Torah section. Accessing your creativity and expression. Engage with creative Jewish teachings around your Torah section. What do you like to play? Music, art, drama? Bring in your creativity to build your ceremony
Session 5 - The Stairs - What does it mean to GROW UP? Explore images of 'the Jewish Woman' and what that means for you and your development.
Session 6 - YOUR room, the Bedroom - Charting Your Dreams - Move in to visioning out the details of your ceremony
Session 7 - The Roof - Overview of the ceremony itself. Develop your speech and what you plan to share/sing/create for the ceremony.
Session 8 - The Yard - Bringing your insides out. How do you bring your gifts to the world? How do you give expression via the Bat Mitzvah ceremony itself. Final touches for the speech/ceremony.
- Finally, THE CEREMONY! What is your dream ceremony in Israel? Chose from magical locations - such as Robinson's Arch at the Southern Wall, the Haas Promenade overlooking the Old City, or a more natural setting such as the Jerusalem Forest.
From more traditional ceremonies (integrating prayers and Torah readings) - to more creative ceremonies (built around your daughter's creative expression), your family can chose from several sample formats to create the ritual right for you.
Together we will craft the ideal vision for your family.
